So finally, Starward-Mecha Girls has been released and servers made available globally, and since this morning, I have been playing the game on both my Android tablet and iPad.

Seriously, you will definitely love the game unless you’re not a fan of anime-style games or gacha games, I would say.

So, the game is here, though still in maintenance mode according to the developer, but that should end today.

Now the big question is, does Starward-Mecha Girls  have full controller support?

That’s why you’re here, and having played the game, below are my observations about it.

Does Starward-Mecha Girls  have controller support?

The answer is yes. Starward-Mecha Girls has full controller support, which simply means you can play the game using an Xbox controller, PS5 controller, PS4 controller, Backbone controller, GameSir controller, EasySMX controllers, etc.

Here’s the thing: I tested the game using both Xbox and PS5 controllers, and they worked perfectly fine. I also tested the game with a GameSir Cyclone 2, and it worked as well.

So this means the game is fully controller compatible and works with any controller thrown at it.

I’m happy that we’re now having a good number of free mobile games that support controllers this year compared to previous years.

Playing the game with a controller is a lot better for me because it has both shooting and hack and slash features, making the use of an external controller a must to enjoy the game.

Kudos to the developer for adding controller support to the game.

I appreciate that a lot.

Game overview

Starward is a 3D fighting / action game featuring anime-style mecha-girls (girls in mecha suits/armor) as playable characters.

The core combat modes are 1v1 and 2v2 player vs player (PvP) matches. Matches are designed to be fast-paced, around 3 minutes each.

It also features a “cost” system for teams: each character has a “COST” value (e.g., 3.0 / 2.5 / 2.0 / 1.5) which you must allocate when building your team.

Each character has unique design, personality, fighting style (close-range melee, ranged shooting) and aesthetic themes (e.g., witch, elf, Chinese-style, fully armored mecha).

Key gameplay features

  • Combat mechanics include shooting (beam rifle, machine gun, charge shoot), blocking, stepping, dashing — echoing classic arcade “GVG” (Gundam vs Gundam) style battle systems.
  • Mecha-girls are divided into roles: vanguard / rearguard types. For example, the description mentions characters like Aliz, SkySaber, XiaoLing as vanguards; and Elfin, Cavalry, Hikari as rearguards.
  • The game also features skins, seasonal updates, events, and increasingly a richer “archive” of character profiles and voice lines.

Setting & style

The theme is sci-fi / mecha with anime aesthetics. The title “Starward” hints at space or high-tech battle, and characters are “mecha girls” fighting in three-dimensional space (not just flat ground) according to the description.

The visual style mixes mecha armor with feminine character design, so it appeals to both fans of mecha combat and of “mecha-musume” (girls + mecha) aesthetics.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • A fresh take on fighting games on mobile with mecha-girl twist — something less common.

  • Fast matches, team play (2v2) adds variety.

  • Clear roles and character style variety.

  • Good for fans of Eastern mecha/fighting games.

Cons:

  • Being a gacha style game: you unlock characters via pull systems, duplicates enhance them, etc.

  • If you’re outside the main server region you might experience high ping or matching issues.
  • As with many live-service mobile games, long-term updates (balance, new characters) matter a lot.

Why you might try it

  • If you enjoy fast, competitive mobile fighting games, especially with 1v1/2v2 modes.

  • If you have an interest in mecha-girl designs, anime aesthetics.

  • If you like team strategy (building a roster under “COST” constraints).

  • If you don’t mind the gacha/unlock mechanics and are okay with likely investing time (or money) to build up favourite characters.
